Springbank is one of only 3 remaining distilleries in the whisky producing region of Cambpeltown - once a hive of whisky distillation.
Due to the exposed, coastal location of the town, Campbeltown (240km south-west of Glasgow) whiskies have their own distinct character defined particularly by an oily, briny quality.
Whilst bourbon casks are primarily used for maturation of Springbank malts, allowing the distillery character to shine through, a number of sherry casks are also used for added body.
A cask-strength Springbank 12 Year Old, released in 2020 after maturing in 65% bourbon casks and 35% sherry casks. Floral aromas of wine gums, wood chippings, candied ginger and lack liquorice fill the nose. The palate offers notes of spiced short-bread biscuits, salted caramel, salted pretzels, dry-cured ham and rich smoke.
These are extremely limited and won't last long!
