Simon Tastes The Whisky Cellars Bruichladdich 'Rhinns' 10YO Jurancon Vin Doux Naturel Cask

Bright, almost aggressive (it is 58.9%). A fight between peat and nectarine fruits. It's sharp, which contrasts the balance apparent on the nose. Plenty going on with Cedar oak, charcoal, citrus notes, grasses, smoked ham-hock plums and nectarines.

Simon Tastes the Carn Mor Celebration of the Cask Bunnahabhain Moine 2004/17YO Aussie Exclusive

An oily texture holds all the flavours well in the mouth. Building grape-like sweetness alongside the sweet character of the malt (digestive biscuit), and large swathes of everything that came through on the nose. The peat is a drying old cigar peat, that balances with the sweetness well. Subtle christmas spice (nutmeg & cinnamon).

Simon tastes Carn Mor Celebration of the Cask Glen Grant 1994 27 Year Old SSW Exclusive (cask 61724)

The simple note would read "honey over peaches and cream", but there's also the same green apples, cedar, grasses, biscuit and varnish mentioned on the nose. A touch of warming ginger spice. An oiliness coats the tongue well and ensures the finish is medium-long. A fantastic example of a mature Speyside whisky.

Simon tastes Carn Mor Celebration of the Cask Glen Grant 1993/27 Year Old (cask 78208)

This 27 Year Old Glen Grant single cask bottling in the Carn Mor Celebration of the Cask range was from cask 78208 (2 casks on from the Celebration of the Cask Bequest we have previously enjoyed). Distilled on the 2nd of June 1993, the malt spent 27 years in a single ex-Bourbon barrel before bottling on the 8th of March 2021. Shipping delays kept this from Aussie shores until the end of August 2021.

Simon tastes the Carn Mor Strictly Limited Linkwood 2011 8 year old

We have been lovers of Linkwood Scotch Whisky for a long time here at Select Scotch Whisky. Linkwood distillery is located in the northern parts of the Speyside region, and is known for producing light and fruit whisky while maintaining a good oiliness (in the non-chill filtered versions at least).

A taste of Old Particular Benrinnes 15 Year Old (2004) Scotch Whisky

The nose has a slight autumnal damp forest floor nature, with touches of yellow flesh plums and a rich herbaceousness with a backbone of clean crisp malt. The malt hits first on the palate, and as you hold the whisky in your mouth the smooth gentle weight from the alcohol builds nicely with a lovely sugar and spice character. The label mentions 'sugary coffee' which is certainly true for me atleast.

'Morrison & Mackay' has become 'Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers'

Some big changes with one of our lovely suppliers, as Morrison & Mackay (producers of the popular Carn Mor range) have undergone a corporate rebranding as 'Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers'. A natural progression after the Morrisons acquired the Mackay share.
