The Clynelish 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is one of the greatest malts of the Diageo core lineup. For a long time Diageo has given Clynelish Distillery a revered status, and acknowledged the importance of the Highland Scotch Whisky it creates as integral to their large volume blends.
The Clynelish 14 Year Old Scotch Whisky is a great example of why the distillate is so highly regarded, with it's obvious waxy texture. This waxy character supposedly created from a build up of residues in the feints and foreshots receivers.
The distillery itself is found just outside the township of Brora, where it shares a carpark with the recently revitalised Brora Distillery. A mecha to visit for lovers of the Clynelish style of single malt.
Expect a honey-ed character on the nose with sugary barley and a touch of red apple fruit. The palate there is a touch of gently peat, coming across as more earthy than smoky, with sweet stone fruits, more honey and malt with the classic waxy texture. The finish is long and balanced.
