The Carn Mor Strictly Limited range of Scotch Whisky from the Family-owned Independent Bottlers, Morrison and Mackay, are a collection of Scotch whiskies from some of the finest distilleries in Scotland. What makes the whiskies so special is that all the whiskies are non-chill-filtered to keep all of the oils and proteins that give it that fantastic authentic and non-doctored flavour in the bottle. As real as it gets.
Linkwood distillery is part of the Diageo stable, and most malt produced at the distillery makes its way into the Johnnie Walker range of blends. However more and more barrels have been released in recent years for the Indie bottlers such as Morrison & Mackay (Carn Mor), and the quality of the malt has shown to be particularly high quality (although certainly some have come from tired or even faulty barrels).
This Strictly Limited release is a blend of 3 minimum 8 year old casks, stated as 'First Fill Bourbon and Rye Barrels'. I suspect 1 bourbon and 2 Rye as the malt has delightful grassy notes from the Rye.
The nose is slightly sweet, and a touch estuary with lifted tropical fruits (Bannanas) and ginger spice. The sweetness follows through on the pallet, added a rich character supported by loads of vanilla and cardamom spice from the casks. The length is long and carried by grapefruit citrus notes and more ginger. Lovely and warming but not excessively so.
700mL. 47.5% VOL. From an outturn of 3 casks producing 953 bottles.
