This Bruichladdich Black Art ed. 08.1 26 year old (1994 distillation) single malt Scotch Whisky is a small piece of history, being the last year before Bruichladdich distillery was closed for what may have been the last time (however thankfully was not!).

This is the 8th releases in the limited edition 'Black Art' series from Bruichladdich, and the 4th put together by Jim McEwans replacement as Bruichladdich Head Distiller - Adam Hannett. With only 12,000 bottles released of this 26 year old single malt Scotch Whisky, this release, like the previous ones is sure to catch the attention of both aficionados and collectors alike.

The Bruichladdich Black Art 08.1 was bottled at a cask strength of 45.1% ABV, and with out any chill filtration or colour added.

Tasting notes from the team at Bruichladdich:

“The cask influence here is not in the same style as previous editions but it has shaped this spirit beautifully, allowing a more mellow, less intense style to come through.” Adam Hannett, Bruichladdich Head Distiller

Palate That citrus style, lemon zest and then the sweetness from the oak meets the palate beautifully. The texture is like warm honey, and brings notes of maple syrup, walnut, toasted oak and coconut. That delicate sweetness floods the palate with vanilla, dried apricot, caramel and millionaires shortbread. The light creamy texture and palate is so soft and gentle but packed with depth and as we draw towards the finish the delicate Bruichladdich DNA of soft stoned fruit comes to the fore.

Finish  The finish is gentle, sweet caramel, dried fruit, sultana, lemon drizzle cake. Hazel nuts, milk chocolate. It’s softness is calming.

Character This Black Art edition stands alone when compared to its brothers. The style is much more about the DNA of the spirit and how the casks will highlight that soft fruit style and zesty character. A lighter Black Art created to explore an idea rather than fit a mould.

Colour Hazel.

45.1% ABV. 700mL.
