The Ben Nevis MacDonald's Traditional Single Malt Scotch Whisky is very full bodied and is based on the original recipe of the Single Malt whisky that the founder of the Ben Nevis Distillery created in their time. The malt for this expression is sourced from Port Ellen Malting’s on Islay, at around 35 ppm. The whisky is at least five years old, but the bottle itself has no age statement. No caramel colouring, the rich and dark colour arrives from the relatively high amounts of charcoal in the whisky.
Ben Nevis Distillery is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is nestled at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, giving its malt a renowned name ‘the dew of Ben Nevis’ . The distillery was founded by ‘Long John’ Macdonald in 1825 and in 1848 in a cunning way of promotion presented a cask to Queen Victoria when she visited Fort William. They produce both malt and grain whiskies simultaneously due to installation in 1955 of a special still.
Expect an extremely smooth and easy drinking malt with plenty of honey and smoke as well as salted butter and peanuts. Rich, sweet and mouth-coating.
