Pintail Indiana Rye 6YO Whiskey

The Pintail Indiana Rye 6 Year Old Oloroso Octave Cask Finished Whiskey is the brands first foray into American Whiskey's. The distillate is from an undisclosed distillery, but we do know the mash bill is greater than 90% rye, and the whiskey was matured in the US for over 5 and a half years in virgin American oak, before making the journey to Scotland. Once in Scotland the whiskey had an extended 14 month finish in 2 fresh ex-Oloroso sherry octaves. The result is an extremely complex and well developed Whiskey, with bright grassy rye character alongside apples, amaretto cherries, vanilla, tasted oak and black pepper spice.

The Pintail brand was originally established by Matthew Gloag and Sons in the 1930's for bottling their dry sherries. After the trademark was allowed to lapse it was picked up by Keith Bonnington (Keeper of the Quaich and owner of The Whisky Cellars Independent Bottlers) to create a range of spirits and wines. With a focus on unusual bottlings, and whiskies finished in rare (and often sweet) wine casks, the Pintail range is built around a focus on extremely limited and desirable bottlings.
