Pintail Girvan (Grain) 17 Year Old Fine Bretagne Cask Finished Scotch Whisky
The Pintail Girvan Single Grain 17 Year Old Fine Bretagne Cask Finished Scotch Whisky is a single cask bottling from Keith Bonnington (Keeper of the Quaich). Fine Bretagne is also known as Lambig, and is a cider brandy from the Breton region in the north-west of France. The 17 year old Girvan distillate brings a creaminess that shows as a silky texture with the notes of apple tarte tatin, lemon sherbet and almond oil that is coming from the extended finish in the Fine Bretagne cask.
This particular Fine Bretagne barrel is from XO Eaux-de-Vies varieties, aged for around 15 years. And the Girvan single grain is at peak performance after a full year in the ex-Fine Bretagne barrel, giving lots of juicy apple and creamy-sweet character.
The Pintail brand was originally established by Matthew Gloag and Sons in the 1930's for bottling their dry sherries. After the trademark was allowed to lapse it was picked up by Keith Bonnington (Keeper of the Quaich and owner of The Whisky Cellars Independent Bottlers) to create a range of spirits and wines. With a focus on unusual bottlings, and whiskies finished in rare (and often sweet) wine casks, the Pintail range is built around a focus on extremely limited and desirable bottlings.
"Purveyors of Precious Wines & Spirits" is the tagline, with a focus on "precious"!
