Pintail Auchroisk 15 Year Old Fondillon Cask Finished Scotch Whisky

The Pintail Auchroisk 2008 15 Year Old Fondillon Cask Finished Scotch Whisky is a single cask bottling from Keith Bonnington (Keeper of the Quaich). Auchroisk is a Speyside distillery owned by drinks-giant Diageo, that is primarily used for the Singleton releases. The distillate from Auchroisk firmly lands in the 'nutty-spicy' side of flavours, which makes it a great distillate for this extended finish in an ex-Fondillon wine cask. Fondillon is the sweet dessert wine produced in the Alicante region of Spain, from Monastrell grapes that are aged oxidatively in oak casks for around 10 years. The finish has added incredible complexity to the Auchroisk whisky, with notes of red fruits, chilli coated hazelnuts, tumeric spice, dark honey and old polished oak abounding.

The Pintail brand was originally established by Matthew Gloag and Sons in the 1930's for bottling their dry sherries. After the trademark was allowed to lapse it was picked up by Keith Bonnington (Keeper of the Quaich and owner of The Whisky Cellars Independent Bottlers) to create a range of spirits and wines. With a focus on unusual bottlings, and whiskies finished in rare (and often sweet) wine casks, the Pintail range is built around a focus on extremely limited and desirable bottlings.

"Purveyors of Precious Wines & Spirits" is the tagline, with a focus on "precious"!
