Kilnaughton Madeira cask Finish Scotch Whisky by The Cooper's Choice
The Cooper's Choice range of single cask whiskies from Scotland's finest distilleries are releases from the Family owned Independent Bottlers; The Vintage Malt Whisky Company. The range is a homage to the passion and skill of the Coopers, the craftsmen, who build the barrels for maturation of Scotch Whisky. The range focuses on the impact of maturation in oak, and includes several obscure and rare wood finishes.
Kilnaughton is named after a stunningly beautiful beach on Islay, near Port Ellen, and is used by Cooper's Choice to reference an Islay distillery they are contractually not allowed to refer to. Rumors abound of course, with many insisting the distillery rhymes with Slargbeg. Certainly this release tastes remarkably familiar...
Nose: Sweet peat smoke and old leather
Palate: Oily smoke with tarred ropes, salted caramels, coffee and dried fruits
Finish: Good length. Lingering peat ash
The single cask (#1154) produced only 312 bottles, with the Australian allocation being 30 bottles.
